Hi everyone for this blog I will be talking about the what can be consider the rich and colorful music culture of Flamenco, which originated in the Andalusian region of Spain. Flamenco emcopasses passionate singing, intricate guitar playing, rhythmic handclaps, and expressive dance. It has deep cultural roots and has evolved over centuries, reflecting the history and emotions of the spanish people.  Flamenco's golden age, from around 1780 to 1845, saw singing take center stage, emphasizing a family-oriented, outdoor tradition. However, a significant shift occurred in 1842 with the founding of Café sin Nombre in Seville by Silverio Franconetti. This marked a transformation, turning flamenco into a more public and commercial form of entertainment. Café cantantes, including Franconetti's establishment, became popular across Spain's major urban centers, altering the dynamics of flamenco by providing a platform for professional performances and expanding its reach beyond famil...

Hey folks! It's LJ back again with another blog about Music and gender. I will be talking about the music and gender within rap music. Rap music really started or gained its hype around the 70s starting in New York City. As rap has become way more recognized globally its explicit nature of lyrics that sexualize, objectify and romanticize women has become extremely normalized as well.  Rap lyrics often reflect and reinforce traditional gender stereotypes. For example, some male rappers may boast about their masculinity, while female rappers may challenge these norms by asserting their strength and independence.  Female rappers like Nicki Minaj and Cardi B have used their music to empower women, celebrating themes of confidence, financial independence, and sexual agency. Many female rappers even outside of Nicki and Cardi emphasize financial independence, highlighting the importance of economic self sufficiency and breaking  free from financial dependence on others.   The Chinese lion dance is a traditional dance that is usually performed at religious festivals, especially during the Chinese new year, wedding ceremonies, and special celebrations. This i s a dance which is like a martial arts form performed in China and other Asian countries to bring good luck. Lead performers wear large, impressionistic lion masks with moving mouths, eyes and ears. It takes at least 2 dancers to perform the lion part of The Chinese lion dance. One manages the mask and the front legs, the other the rear legs. The back performer must be able to lift the front as part of the performance. Footwork includes quick cross steps, lifted knees, and side-to-side steps. The performer in front is the head and front limbs, the one behind is the back and hind legs. Performers' legs are dressed the same color as the lion's body, and sometimes the costume extends to shoes the shape and color of the lion's paws. The lions' head is huge and very much oversized. The l...
