Music & Family

Hey folks its LJ Curry and for this blog I have decided to interview my father. My dad is 48 years old and has a old school music taste compared to mine. This being the reason why I wanted to interview him.

Me: What was your favorite genre or artist at various points in your life?

Dad: My favorite artist was Tupac, he was the first artist to hit

Me: What is your first memory of music?

Dad: Tupac song called Trapped

What was your experience with the song?

Dad: I felt inspired like nobody could hold me back.

How did his music impact your childhood?

Dad: It impacted my childhood and it mentally prepared me for the struggles I will go through in life.

Me: What did your parents think of the music you listened to as a kid?

Dad: I think the music is like a self destruction and it is less inspirational and a trap to lead you down the wrong path some of it.

Me: Were you involved in anything like band or choir in school?

Dad: Yes, I was in band and played trombone and was in choir for a year.

Me: Did you play an instrument or take lessons? What was that like?

Dad: Played trombone and to me it was just too much didn't really enjoy it was a struggle being in band and going to school and carrying the instrument if I was thinking I would've gotten a smaller instrument

Me: Was there any style or genre of music that was off-limits when you were a kid?

Dad: The real heavy cursing rap when I was little but I still snuck and listened to it

Me: Did you parents influence what kind of music you listened to? Did they push you to take lessons or play an instrument?

Dad: They influenced me in a way to listen to music with a story line/inspirational. And no they didn't.

Me: What sort of technology did you use to listen to your music? How has that changed over the years?

Dad: The coset tape walkman and then the cd walkman. Now I mostly listen to music over the phone on pandora. They used to make a a-track thing back then but now probably can't even find it.

Me: Where did you listen to music when you were growing up? The car? Your room? The radio?

Dad: The radio and room

Me: What sort of music was popular when you were growing up? Did you listen to that kind of music, or something less mainstream?

Dad: Rap and yes I did.

Me: Do you think music has evolved in a positive or negative way throughout your lifetime?

Dad: Im kind of 50 50 on that but leaning towards a negative impact nowadays
